Handy AI Lab Welcome Kit

15 starter prompts built to get you one real win with AI this week. Made for the Handy AI Lab community.

15 prompts Format: Copy & paste Works with: Claude · ChatGPT · Gemini

How to use this pack

Welcome to Handy AI Lab. If you just joined, start here, not with the flashy stuff you've seen in a TikTok. These 15 prompts are picked to get you one real, usable result in the next 20 minutes, not a tutorial about theory. Pick the one that matches something you actually need to do today. Run it. See what happens. That first small win is what makes the rest of the community click, because everyone here started exactly where you are.

  1. Pick one prompt below that matches something you actually need done today, not the one that sounds most impressive.
  2. Copy it into Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini. Free accounts work fine for all of these.
  3. Fill in every [BRACKET] with your real situation. That's the only step people skip and the only one that matters.
  4. Read what comes back. If it's not quite right, just say so: 'shorter,' 'less formal,' 'try again.'
  5. Post your result (or your favorite prompt) in Handy AI Lab. That's how you go from 'just joined' to part of the group.

Your first win

Start with whichever one of these matches something on your plate right now.

PROMPT 01

The Explain-It-Simply Prompt

Understand anything confusing, explained at your level, no jargon.

Copy this
Explain [TOPIC OR THING YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND] to me like I'm smart but have zero background in it.

Structure:
1. One-sentence plain definition
2. A real-world comparison that doesn't require prior knowledge
3. Why it actually matters to me
4. The one thing people usually get wrong about it

No jargon. If you have to use a technical term, define it in the same sentence.
Pro tipThis is the single best prompt for anyone new to AI. Use it on anything, a contract clause, a tech term, why your website is slow. It's the fastest way to feel useful gains from day one.
PROMPT 02

The Quick Summarizer

Turn a long article, email thread, or document into 3 bullet points in seconds.

Copy this
Summarize the text below in:
1. One sentence, the core idea
2. Three bullet points, the main supporting points
3. One specific action I should take based on it

Skip generic takeaways, be specific to this text.

Text:
[PASTE TEXT HERE]
PROMPT 03

The Email Drafter

Turn a rough thought into a sendable email in under a minute.

Copy this
Draft a [LENGTH, e.g. "short"] email to [RECIPIENT, RELATIONSHIP].

What I want to say, rough:
[YOUR ROUGH THOUGHTS]

Tone: [WARM/DIRECT/PROFESSIONAL/CASUAL]

Rules:
- Lead with the point in the first sentence, don't bury it
- Plain language, no "I hope this email finds you well"
- End with one clear next step if there is one

Output: email body only, no subject line.

Everyday thinking

For when you're stuck, deciding, or need a second brain.

PROMPT 04

The Decision-Maker

Get unstuck between two options with a real recommendation, not a shrug.

Copy this
I'm deciding between [OPTION A] and [OPTION B].

Context:
- What the decision is for: [WHAT IT'S FOR]
- What matters most to me: [TOP 2-3 THINGS]
- Constraints: [BUDGET, TIME, RISK TOLERANCE]

Give me a side-by-side comparison on each factor, your recommendation with a clear reason, and one thing I probably haven't considered.

Don't hedge. Pick one.
Pro tipAdding 'don't hedge, pick one' at the end changes everything. Without it you get a wishy-washy answer you already knew. With it you get an actual opinion you can push back on.
PROMPT 05

The Brainstormer

Generate 10 real ideas around any problem in under a minute.

Copy this
Generate 10 distinct ideas for [TOPIC OR GOAL].

Constraints:
- 10 genuinely different angles, not 10 versions of the same idea
- Mix conventional, contrarian, and a little weird
- One sentence per idea
- After the list, mark your top 3 and say why

Context if it helps: [WHO THIS IS FOR / ANY CONSTRAINTS]
PROMPT 06

The Question-Asker

For when you don't know enough about something to even ask a good question.

Copy this
I want to [GOAL OR DECISION], but I don't know enough about it to ask good questions.

Before giving me any advice, ask me 5-8 clarifying questions you'd need answered to actually help.

Make the questions specific and answerable, not "what's your budget" but "what's the most you're willing to spend per month."

After I answer, then give me the advice.
Pro tipThis is the most-used prompt among people who've been in the community awhile. It flips the AI from answer machine to interviewer, which surfaces things you didn't know you didn't know.

Around the business

Small tasks that eat real time, handled in a couple minutes.

PROMPT 07

The Customer Reply Drafter

Draft a reply to a customer question in your voice.

Copy this
You are the customer service voice for [BUSINESS NAME], a [INDUSTRY] business. Our voice is [3-5 ADJECTIVES].

A customer just sent this: [PASTE CUSTOMER MESSAGE]

Draft a reply that answers their specific question, matches our voice, and offers one clear next step. If you need more information to answer well, ask me for it before drafting.
PROMPT 08

The Social Caption Writer

Turn a quick idea into a real caption instead of staring at a blank box.

Copy this
Write 3 caption options for [PLATFORM] about [WHAT THE POST IS ABOUT].

Audience: [WHO FOLLOWS YOU]
Voice: [3 WORDS DESCRIBING YOUR VOICE]

One option should be short and punchy, one should tell a small story, one should ask a genuine question. No more than 5 hashtags on any of them.
PROMPT 09

The Meeting Notes Cleaner

Turn messy meeting notes into decisions and action items.

Copy this
Below are my rough notes from a meeting. Extract:
1. The 3-5 key decisions made
2. Action items with who owns each one, if mentioned
3. Anything left unresolved
4. A 2-sentence summary I could paste into a group chat

Notes:
[PASTE YOUR NOTES]
PROMPT 10

The Review Response

Reply to a customer review, good or bad, without sounding like a template.

Copy this
Here's a [STAR RATING]-star review: "[PASTE REVIEW]"

Draft a public reply that responds to what they actually said, not a generic thank-you. If it's negative, acknowledge the issue and offer to take it offline. Keep it under 80 words.

Level up

Once the first few feel easy, try these.

PROMPT 11

The Counterargument Generator

Pressure-test your own thinking before you commit to it.

Copy this
Below is my current thinking on [TOPIC OR DECISION]:

[YOUR THINKING]

Steelman the opposite position. Give me the single strongest counterargument, a specific scenario where I'm wrong, and what someone who disagrees with me would say.

Don't be polite about it. Be sharp.
PROMPT 12

The Plan Generator

Turn a vague goal into a real week-by-week plan.

Copy this
Build me a [TIMEFRAME, e.g. "4-week"] plan to achieve [GOAL].

Where I am now: [STARTING POINT]
Constraints: [TIME, BUDGET, OTHER OBLIGATIONS]
What "done" looks like: [DEFINITION OF SUCCESS]

For each period: one main focus, 2-3 specific tasks, one checkpoint. End with the most likely reason I'll fail to follow through, and how to prevent it.
PROMPT 13

The Voice-Match Prompt

Get AI writing that actually sounds like you instead of generic AI voice.

Copy this
Below are 3-5 examples of things I've written (emails, posts, texts, whatever sounds most like me):

[PASTE YOUR EXAMPLES]

Study the patterns: sentence length, word choice, how formal or casual I am, anything I say a lot. Then write [NEW THING YOU NEED] in that same voice.

If you're unsure about the voice, ask me one clarifying question before writing.
Pro tipPick examples from the middle of your range, not your most polished writing and not your most careless texts. The average is where your real voice lives.
PROMPT 14

The Outline Builder

Get a real structure for anything you need to write, fast.

Copy this
Build an outline for [WHAT YOU'RE WRITING, e.g. "a 3-minute talk on X"].

Audience: [WHO IT'S FOR]
Goal: [WHAT YOU WANT THEM TO THINK OR DO AFTER]

Give me: a headline with 2 alternatives, an opening hook, 3-5 main sections with what goes under each, and a close. Flag your strongest section and your weakest.
PROMPT 15

The Weekly Priority Sort

Turn a chaotic to-do list into what actually matters this week.

Copy this
Here's everything on my plate right now, messy is fine:
[PASTE YOUR FULL LIST]

Sort into: must happen this week (max 5), can wait until next week, and doesn't actually need to be done by me at all.

Order the "must happen" list by what unblocks the most other things, not just by deadline.
